Course Registration Tips

April 2, 2018 by New Student and Family Programs

Pre-registration for Summer and Fall 2018 courses will take place April 4 – April 20. Here are some tips to share with your student to ensure course registration goes smoothly.

Registration Time Tickets are typically available to view in Howdy after mid-March and provide the specific start/end dates & times when the student can pre-register for Summer and/or Fall.

  1. Remember to check for any registration holds as they must be cleared with the department having placed the hold.  The Office of the Registrar cannot remove holds placed by other departments. See How to View Holds/Blocks for more information.
  2. Complete the Lab Safety Acknowledgment. Some courses will require a lab safety acknowledgement to be submitted before students can register for the course.  See Lab Safety Acknowledgement for more information.
  3. Distance Education Location update: Before students can register in a distance education course, they must indicate their location to ensure correct billing and comply with other state and federal rules. Go to the Distance Education Location Update link in the “Registration Channel” of the My Record tab to provide this information.
  4. Registration related tutorials are available in the “Learn About the My Record Tab” channel in your My Record tab: Class Search Best Practices, Registration Tips & Best Practices, Register (Add/Drop Classes).
  5. The pre-registration and open registration schedule can be found online.
  6. Students with registration errors related to classification, field of study or other similar errors should contact their academic advisor for assistance. Be aware that response time to email during registration may be delayed.
