The Parents of the Year (POY) program is a unique family recognition program that has existed at Texas A&M since 1956. When the program began in 1956, it was known as the Aggie Mother of the Year program. Current students would nominate deserving Aggie Mothers and they would be honored at Mother's Day ceremonies. In 1974 the award was changed to Parents of the Year, yet the selection and announcement process remained the same. Although the announcement process looks slightly different from present day, all other aspects of the program remain the same.
The award, given once a year, recognizes the dedication and involvement of Aggie family members. Families selected as Parents of the Year are invited to be recognized during Family Weekend events, Parents of the Year reunion events, and other campus activities.

Meet the Lepley's: Parents of the Year 2021-2022
We are proud to have Kathy and Reggie Lepley as our 2021-2022 Parents of the Year. Nominated by their daughter, Shelby Lepley, it was very clear that they resemble all that this honor represents. The Lepleys are proud members of the Aggie community and represent the core values through their devout efforts to support Texas A&M students.
In her nomination, Shelby said “The most evident way that my parents exhibit the Aggie core values is through their interactions with people in the community,” she wrote. “Following their values is about more than being good Aggies; it is about being good everyday people that are accountable and helpful to those around them. My parents, through work and community involvement, are public servants in every form of the word. They demonstrate leadership, selfless service and loyalty to the community as they help with our Farm Bureau, county fair and student organizations in our local schools.”
The Lepleys were shocked to have been nominated and selected for this award. They feel that there are so many amazing parents that deserve to be recognized, they just cannot believe that they were selected for this honor. The press release announcing their status as Parents of the Year can be found at today.tamu.edu.
